How do we make the Simple Present Tense?
Formula 1
(+) S + V1(es/s) + O
(-) S + do/does + not + O
(?) Do/Does + S + O?
Formula 2
(+) S + main verb (am/is/are) + O
(-) S + main verb (am/is/are) + not + O
(?) Main verb (Am/Is/Are) + S + O?
There are three important exceptions:
- For positive sentences, we do not normally use the auxiliary.
- For the 3rd person singular (he, she, it), we add s to the main verb or es to the auxiliary.
- For the verb to be, we do not use an auxiliary, even for questions and negative.
Example:
(+) I am a soldier
(-) I am not a soldier
(?) Am I a soldier?

We use the simple present tense when:
